Preservation of Fine Metal

Proper cleaning, thermal unbinding procedures, and bearing preservation protocols to keep your instrument operating flawlessly for decades.

1. Isopropyl Alcohol (ISO) Immersion

Chemical cleansing must respect the specific metallurgy of each piece:

  • 304 Stainless Steel (Aroma-3, Flower Mill): Safe for 99% ISO immersion, ultrasonic baths, and boiling water. Completely non-reactive.
  • 6061-T6 Anodized Aluminum (SCS, BCG): Limit ISO immersion to 20-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly in warm water to preserve finish.
  • Aroma-3 Bearing Protocol: NEVER soak the shielded central bearing in alcohol; it strips factory lubricants. Wipe exterior clean with a dry microfiber cloth.

2. Thread Seizure & Thermal Shock

If botanical resins bind traditional screw threads (such as the Santa Cruz Shredder):

  1. Place the locked unit in a domestic freezer for 35 minutes. Cold induces metallic contraction and makes resin glassy.
  2. Twist firmly using rubber jar-grippers for instant frictionless separation.
  3. Apply a microscopic drop of hempseed oil to male threads every 6 months.

3. Flower Mill Rotor Calibration

To ensure effortless, stem-free milling on Next-Gen 2.5 Stainless instruments:

  • Seat the composite washer flat beneath the rotor before fastening the bayonet lock.
  • Avoid excessive vertical force; the rotor operates via lateral rolling torque.

4. Neodymium Magnet Sanitation

For threadless magnetic models (Brilliant Cut Grinder and Odin):

  • Use a soft nylon brush to sweep minor botanical particles from magnetic central recesses.
  • Brilliant Cut Grinder requires cleaning less than once a year under standard daily usage.
